Welcome to Norfolk Heritage Explorations, an initiative led by the Forum Trust, Norwich, and funded by a grant of £48,200 from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The project has helped the five Norfolk communities of Breckles, Happisburgh, Harleston, Mulbarton and Reepham to research and record their heritage, and publish it on this website. These communities represent the diversity of communities in Norfolk, from market towns to a tiny village, from the deeply rural to a coastal community.
Here the communities tell the story of these historic Norfolk towns and villages, allowing visitors the chance to explore themes ranging from churches, historic buildings and pubs to wartime, smugglers and wildlife.
We have railways and windmills, schools and farming, even a lighthouse, lifeboats and shipwrecks. Explore the image galleries to see past and present. Longer articles are available in the file galleries.
Enjoy exploring the site and if something really sparks your interest why not plan a visit with the quick links to local street maps, tourist information and travel planners.
The material on this site is not a definitive guide to the areas concerned or to their heritage, but is presented as an interpretation of those areas by the contributors.
